NEW PRODUCT ANNOUNCEMENT - HMC1051ZL MAGNETIC SENSOR
Designed for Low Field Magnetic Sensing

MINNEAPOLIS, June 2, 2004 - Honeywell announced today the addition of a low-height, third- (or z-) axis magnetic sensor to its family of magnetic products. The HMC1051ZL offers a surface-mount feature in a leadless chip carrier (LCC) that benefits users by reducing their manufacturing costs. The miniature size and low-height profile (2mm) of this magnetoresistive sensor make it ideal for portable, small products like hand-held devices requiring extremely small sensors. Applications include compassing, navigation, and attitude reference.

The HMC1051ZL magnetic sensor offers a compact, high sensitivity, high reliability solution for vertical surface mounting of the third axis. Previous third (z)-axis magnetic sensors were designed as taller through-hole configurations. A z-axis is used with a two- (or xy) axis magnetic sensor for three-axis electronic compassing. This allows an electronic compass to be used in non-level configurations. The HMC1051ZL was developed for use with Honeywell's two-axis HMC1052 sensor.

The HMC1051ZL is capable of sensing fields down to 120 micro-gauss, while providing precise measurement as required in electronic compassing applications. Key features include linear range of ±6 gauss, low height at 2mm, and vertical mounting capability. The magnetoresistive sensors are configured as a four-element Wheatstone Bridge to convert magnetic fields to differential output voltages.

Honeywell's complete family of magnetic sensor-based products offers high sensitivity and high reliability. They can accurately detect the direction and magnitude of external magnetic fields for compassing and magnetometry applications. They operate on nearly any platform.
