HONEYWELL INTRODUCES INTEGRATED COMPASS SENSOR
Sensor Designed for Mobile Wireless and Consumer Electronics

MINNEAPOLIS, July 9, 2003 -- Honeywell (NYSE:HON) today introduced an integrated compass sensor for vehicle and mobile wireless platforms. The sensor is composed of a two-axis magnetic sensor and all critical analog circuits needed to add a compass function to consumer Selectronics.

"Honeywell's integrated compass sensor offers circuit board designers an easy-to-use, chip-scale option to be used in the development of low-cost electronics," said Tamara Bratland, Honeywell magnetics product line manager. "When combined with a microprocessor, the HMC6052 sensor can provide compass and location-based services in watches, wireless phones and personal digital assistants."

The integrated compass sensor measures just 4 by 4 by 0.9 millimeters and is packaged in a 12-pin leadless chip carrier. The heading resolution of the compass depends on a designer's choice of analog-to-digital converters precision and component-printed circuit board location. The compass is appropriate for battery-powered (2.5 to 3.6V) applications and can be used in systems with tight power budgets.

The Honeywell family of magnetic sensor-based products offers high sensitivity for accurate electronic compassing, magnetometry, telematics, vehicle detection, position sensing and security systems. More information about the integrated compass sensor is on the Honeywell Web at www.magneticsensors.com.
