Honeywell Introduces HMR2300r Magnetometer

MINNEAPOLIS, SEPT. 24, 1998-Honeywell today introduced the HMR2300r, a three-axis strapdown magnetometer, especially designed for avionics applications. Just like the other solid state products in Honeywell's Magnetic Product Family, this new magnetometer is optimized to operate within the earth's magnetic field (~.5 gauss) with a full scale range of ±2 gauss and resolution less than 7mgauss. The sensor design measures the x, y, and z components to determine heading calculations for aircraft navigation. The components used in the HMR2300r Magnetometer have been carefully selected to minimize the residual effects of exposure to large magnetic fields. A distinct advantage of the HMR2300r is that it recovers in one reading after a large magnetic field is removed and offset shift is negligible.

When applied in a navigation system, this cost effective HMR2300r can resolve better than a 0.02 degree rotation in any direction. The HMR2300r can be used in an Attitude Heading Reference System (AHRS) as a slaved magnetic sensor whose readings are valid for any flight conditions.

Product features include small size (2.830 in diameter, <0.6 inch thick) and light weight (<30 grams) round design. The size and operation were designed to replace a conventional ML-1 type flux-valve-magnetic sensors commonly used in aviation platforms. The HMR2300r also features quick heading response time, which is necessary in the high dynamics of flight. The output rate of this new sensor can be programmed from 10 to 154 readings per second. Data transmission is either half-duplex RS485 (2-wire) or full-duplex RS422 (4-wire).

The HMR2300r is manufactured at the Honeywell Solid State Electronics Center (SSEC) located in Plymouth, Minnesota. SSEC is a leading supplier of magnetic sensors, precision pressure transducers, high temperature electronic components, and integrated circuits for aerospace applications.
